Why is Vitamin K2 important?

Vitamin K2 tells your body what to do with calcium. When Vitamin K2 levels are adequate, calcium goes into your bones and teeth where it belongs. When Vitamin K2 levels are inadequate, calcium can deposit in soft tissues like arteries, kidneys, and the gum-line, where it can cause problems.

Why do I need supplements?

Vitamin K2 is found naturally in pungent foods that are out of favor these days, like liver, sauerkraut, fermented soybeans (natto), and soured milk. With those foods no longer in our diet, many people need to supplement their Vitamin K2 intake.

What types of Vitamin K2 do I need?

MK-4 and MK-7, both essential for good health, are distributed differently and activate different proteins in the body. MK-4 supports normal brain function, and can travel across the placenta to benefit the developing fetus. MK-7, which goes to work in the bones, is longer acting.

Experience the Full-Spectrum advantage.

Unlike many other Vitamin K2 supplements, InnovixLabs' Full-Spectrum Vitamin K2 contains both MK-4 and MK-7 (in its easily-absorbed TRANS form). Each small, easy-to-swallow pill packs in 500 micrograms of MK-4 and 100 micrograms of TRANS MK-7.

Third-party tested. Always.

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • Hi, I want to give this to my 34 pound 2 yr old she knows how to swallow capsules so that’s not a concern her vitamin c capsule is bigger than a penny. Can she have a whole capsule? Or should I puncture it into a spoon and give her half? How often if I give her a whole capsule?

Hi Karina - while 2 year olds need Vitamin K2, the dosage present in one capsule is more than they need. The age and weight may be a concern. Please make sure that her pediatrian is also OK with the idea. Older children (4 to 5 years olds) can easily bite and pop open the pills in their mouths. For kids that are about 50 lbs, one pill every other day is sufficient. In your kid's case, please check with your pediatrician. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • I noticed you recommended taking vitamin A to another person who was taking vitamin D and K (I think). You recommended a very large dose of Vit A, once a week... I hear a lot about getting too much vitamin A and don't know the whole story probably. I'm looking at your full spectrum vit K2 to assist with the calcium and vit D in my calcium supp, how does vitamin A play with that? There is a small amount of vitamin A in my very basic morning multi, 1667IU. Maybe that's enough?

Hi Susan - this is a good question. We can give you a really long answer and put you to sleep...but we'll try to keep it short.

Vitamin A works together with D and K2. So, if you are taking a big dose of D3 daily (say, 5000 IU, like a lot of people these days), it is important that you also take at least some A and K2.

Vitamin A is needed in larger amounts than either D3 or K2. Your 1667 IU of Vitamin A is likely both inadequate and in the wrong form. The form of Vitamin A found in multivitamins are not really Vitamin A but rather a precursor to Vitamin A, which means your body has to convert it to Vitamin A. This is a an inefficient conversion in many people. Also, the kind found in carrots are also precurors. The form of Vitamin A found in eggs, butter, and liver is the right form and does not require conversion. But since many people do not like eating these foods, we suggest that you take Vitamin A supplements, like the ones made by NOW Foods (we take it), especially if you are taking a separate D3.

If you are focused on bone strength, talk to your doctor about measuring your blood D3 level. Once you know that, you can work to get your D3 level up. If there is a D3 deficiency, the small amount of D3 in your calcium supplement is unlikely to be adequate. Certainly take K2. After that, consider a Vit A supplement to help D3 and K2 do their jobs. Beyond that, Magnesium also helps calcium strengthen your bones.  - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • My apologies if this has been asked previously. I am on a daily dose of Plavix blood thinner, 75mg. Is it safe to take Innovix K2 for people on Plavix ? I have read several articles that says K2 is not recommended if you're taking the Warfarin blood thinner. But what about Plavix ?

Hi Stevie - even though Vitamin K2 is not known to interfere with most anti-thrombotic drugs (like Plavix), we strongly suggest that you make this decision with the help of your doctor.

If you are taking first-generation anti-coagulant medications such as Warfarin and Coumadin, you may wish to keep your K2 dosage at 50 mcg or lower per day, which may be enough to prevent acute deficiency symptoms, but may not be enough to fully prevent or reverse soft tissue calclfication.

Warfarin/Coumadin work by strongly inhibiting Vitamin K1 and they have a much milder interaction with K2. This product does not contain any K1. - InnovixLabs Customer Customer Service

  • What is the size of these capsules?

Hi Jen - they are fairly small. If you scroll up to the top of this page, there is a size comparison of the pill next to a penny. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • I am taking Eliquis 5mg bid along with Omegavia fish oil. Is it safe for me to take your k2? I have CKD stage 3 and mild Parkinson’s.

Hi Joe - due to the clearly medical nature of your question, this is best directed at your pharmacist and/or doctor.

Eliquis is a new generation anti-coagulant and works by a different mechanism of action than first-gen anti-coagulants like Warfarin and Coumadin. We know that Warfarin/Coumadin does not interfere with K2 if the K2 dosage is under 50 mcg per day. However, such data is not available for Eliquis.

  • Hi, I was wondering what is carob color exactly? Can’t seems to find the answer on the internet. I mean is it fat? Saccharide? I’m on SCD diet because of IBD and I can’t consume carob. I guess the carob color is far from the actual carob itself… I’d need to know does it have any polysaccharides? It might be a stupid question but I ‘m not a chemist:) SCD is based on not to have polysaccharides only monosaccharides are allowed to have. This vitamin looks perfect to me but can’t put this ingredients (carob color) anywhere. Thank you Kate

Hi Kate – the carob color used in the gelatin shell of the softgels is to block light, as K2 is light sensitive. The carob color is made from the fruit or beans of the St. John’s Bread tree or the Carob tree. It is similar to peas. The bean pods are dried and ground to create natural brown coloring. It is often used to replace cocoa powder. In this case, we used carob instead of caramel because there was some concern with the safety of synthetic caramel colors. It is neither a fat nor a carbohydrate (saccharide). Per regulations, is is classified as a natural color. If you are allergic to carob, you should not take this product. However, due to the extremely small (trace) levels of carob color present in the shell of gelatin capsule, there will be virtually zero carbohydrates added to your diet from taking one pill. Even if you consumed the whole bottle of pills in one sitting (you shouldn’t!) you would not add measurable levels of carbohydrates to your diet. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • I notice this product includes 500mcg of K2. Is that a safe level of taking this supplement daily for general health / wellness? Shameer

Hi Shameer – this product contains 500 mcg of MK-4 form of vitamin K2 and, yes, that is a perfectly safe level. MK-4 is a drug in Japan and is dosed at 45,000 mcg daily for osteoporosis. So, 500 mcg is safe. However, we don’t recommend that you take more than 200 mcg of the MK-7 form of Vitamin K2. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Hi I thought K2-7 dosages are most effective at 180 level, not 100. Pls advise as both my wife and I need this particular vitamin due to heart problems. I have read that at sufficiently high dosages, the K2-7 will bring about regression in calcium build up in arteries. Do you have any info on this? Thank you Preston

Hi Preston – MK-7 form of K2 is effective even at 50 and 100 mcg level. The 180 figure is based on one major clinical study. We believe most people will notice significant improvements at 50 or 100. As you approach 200 mcg, more people seem to complain about side effects, so we do not feel comfortable increasing the MK-7 level in our formula. Regression of arterial calcification is the hot new area of focus with MK-7. We do not have a specific dosage for reversal of arterial calcification yet. For now, consistently consuming 50 to 100 mcg daily, either through diet or with a supplement is a good start. Consistently taking both MK-4 and MK-7 may be more important than a sudden adoption of an ultra-high MK-7 dose. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Hi . . . Is there a reason that this product cannot be made with purely plant-sourced ingredients, i.e., without gelatin? Thank you in advance for your reply. . . . Vivi

Hi Vivi – we considered using a plant-based softgel (soft gelatin capsule). However, plant-based soft capsules include several ingredients that many of our customers find objectionable. Also, vegetarian softgels are hard, with a sharp seam where the two hemispheres of the softgel come together – this makes swallowing occasionally uncomfortable. So, for now, we are only offering this item with a regular gelatin softgel. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • I’m very impressed with this product and am happy it is soy free. Please keep making it as it is. My Question: What is the best ratio of vitamin D to take with this dose? Also do you have a product that is a mixture of this and vitamin D or a vitamin D product that we can take concurrently? Judee

Hi Judee – glad the product is working well for you. The amount of supplemental Vitamin D needed depends on your blood levels of Vitamin D, your diet, your daily sun exposure, and the time of the year. If you factor all that in, most people need about 4000 IU in the winter time and about half that much in the summer. But you are not most people…I really can’t predict how much you will need. You can take a 5000 IU Vitamin D3 pill every day during the winter and every other or every third day during the summer, depending on your sun exposure. You’ll need to work with your doctor to keep your D levels around 50. Also, remember that Vitamins D3 and K2 work together with Vitamin A. We recommend a 25,000 IU Vitamin A capsule a couple of times a week. While we do not make a pill that contains all three of these nutrients, NOW Foods makes good D3 and A. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Is the MK-4 in your product synthetic? Roxana

Hi Roxana – the starting raw material used to make the MK-4 is plant material. However, there is a lengthy process that is requited to turn the plant materials into pure MK-4. This process, we feel, separates it from, say, pastured egg yolk, goose liver, grass-fed cheese/butter or sauerkraut etc. that are the real natural sources of K2. Therefore, we do not feel comfortable calling it natural. The same applies to MK-7. Until the FDA defines these rules for us, all MK-4 and MK-7 found in all supplements fall into the same boat. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Can you organise a shop on Amazon UK. That way you can still ship directly from your warehouse or have stock in Amazon UK warehouses. Also it simplifies the import duties and taxes etc which Amazon deal with and incorporate into the price. So much less hassle and we know upfront the total cost. No more form filling and calculating shipping and no more waiting for customs to call or write for payment before they deliver my order etc. Its all factored into price on Amazon. Total Bliss. Ordering from Amazon US store can still be difficult by the way. Yes im aware you now ship direct via this site. Ive sent this to your email support and the website comments section as not sure which was best. Thanks. T A

Hi T A – thank you, yes, we are working on that. It is, we are told, a lengthy process.

In the meantime, you can buy directly from this website for shipment to the UK. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Just a few questions, are both mk-4 and mk-7 in your product synthetic or natural? Is the mk-7 trans? Is it from MenaQ7, because I know they make both forms of mk-7 synthetic (bio identical) and natural (chickpeas). If the mk-4 and mk-7 is synthetic are they bio identical? The caramel color, is it from corn? Scott

Hi Scott – yes, both MK-4 and MK-7 are trans form of the molecule. There is a lot of marketing hype about natural or synthetic K2. In our opinion, all K2 are fairly synthetic, including this product and the ones made from chickpeas. We say that because the original raw material source for all of these products is plant based. Ours uses geranium petals as a starting material. By the time it is purified to a state that is ready to consume, it has been through several purification steps. We don’t think it is accurate to call it natural at that point because it is so far removed from its natural state, even though the raw material was flower petals. The chickpea MK-7 and all the other K2 marketed as ‘natural’ go through similar processes. We do not feel the chickpea material is natural either. It’s a matter of opinion. Until the FDA steps in and clarifies this semantics debate, we choose to be conservative and say it is synthetic. We do not use MenaQ7. Yes, both MK-4 and MK-7 are bio-identical, in that the molecules are the same as that found in nature and recognized by the body as a nutrient. The color is from carob – it needs a dark pill because K2 is light sensitive. So, don’t leave your pill outside the bottle too long before taking it. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Could this product be given to a 7 year old that weighs 50 pounds, maybe every third day or so? I know vitamins are best gotten through food but he absolutely will not eat foods that are rich in this vitamin so I’m looking for a good supplement. And can I take this while pregnant? Becky

Hi Becky – yes, we have several parents who give it to their kids who are 6 and up. They can either swallow or chew it. Every other day or every third day is fine. K2 is not stored for long, so, there is minimal risk of overdosing. K2 is critical during pregnancy for proper bone development of the fetus. Baby’s teeth (both baby and adult teeth) are partially formed during first and second trimesters. K2 is needed for all that. The MK-4 form of K2 should be part of all prenatal formulas, but it’s rarely ever found in prenatals. If you are pregnant, make sure to check with your OB before taking. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

    Becky replied -
Thank you for your reply. Would there be a reason not to supplement during pregnancy? My diet is quite varied but I know that I am not getting much in the way of grass fed butters and meats so I’d like to cover those bases and I checked my prenatal and though it’s good, it only conatains 60 mcg of Vit K1/K2 combined and it’s only the Mk-7 form. We all just started Vitamin D3 and I’m looking forward to using this in combination with the D.

  • Hi, I wonder why your product is not on iherb? Amazon.com won’t ship dietary supplement/vitamins to my country, Norway. I tried asking them why, but haven’t got an answer yet. I tried amazon.uk, but there the price is £67 a bottle, witch(sic) is more than $100 and a bit too pricey for me. Nils

Hi Nils – thank you for contacting us about Vitamin K2.  We now ship directly to over 25 countries from this website, including Norway.

We are in the process of working with iHerb.  - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Hi, I’ve gone through the comments looking for advice on giving this to children, but it seems you mentioned children aged six and up. I would like to give this to my child, who is three years old and 28 pounds but am unsure of the dosage. Also, we live in a state where the days are very short with no sunlight in the winter and will be supplementing with Vit D as well. What would you recommend as a good K2/D3 ratio? Pam

Hi Pam – we don’t recommend you give this capsule to a three year old, not because of the strength of the dosage, but rather because of the choking hazard involved in giving a capsule to a child of that age. We suggest looking into a liquid Vitamin K2 product with the MK-4 form of Vitamin K2. Thorne makes a fairly good liquid product that’s acceptable for young children. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Can you take this product with tenormin and armour thyroid? Ann

Hi Ann – if you are on blood thinners, K2 may cause some interference with the functioning of those drugs. We are not aware of any interaction with the medications you mention. Please discuss with your pharmacist and/or doctor before proceeding. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Do these vitamins pass CA prop 65 standards? Tatiana

Hi Tatiana – yes, all InnovixLabs supplements are tested in-house and by third-party labs (and pass) California Prop 65 standards for heavy metals. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Hello, Do you have a link to the 3rd party test results regarding the Vitamin K2 present in this supplement? Kevin

Hi Kevin – the third party lab (Covance) does not post the results online for public view. However, in a month or so, we will upgrade this website to contain results from 3rd party labs. Results of fish oil products, however, are posted on IFOS Consumer Reports pages. K2 does not (yet) have a 3rd party testing facility like International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) that posts results for all to see. Wish we did. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Will you ship “Full Spectrum Vitamin K2” to India? Does K2 interfere with any other vitamin/mineral supplements? Guru

Hi Guru – we now ship to India. You may place an order on this website and India is a country to which we ship.  - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Am keen to purchase the K2 product. I live in Malaysia, but Amazaon says it does not ship to Malaysia. Can I buy direct from Innovix ? Thanks. Stevie

Hi Stevie – we now ship to Malaysia directly from our warehouse for orders placed on this website. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • My husband has a hard time swallowing these softgels. Can he puncture and squeeze/chew contents into his mouth? Debbi

Hi Debbi – sorry to hear that he’s having trouble swallowing the pills. Puncturing and squeezing can work, but the contents of the pill may squirt across the room. We suggest he chew the pills instead. The K2 active ingredient in the pill is dissolved in a suspension of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, so it is pleasant to taste. Hope this suggestion helps.  - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Hello. Im thiking about ordering this product – but I would like to know if this product contains Vitamin K2 in the “Trans” form before I order? There are two types of Vitamin K2. The “Cis” form is considered ineffective, and is sadly found in many supplements. Knut

Hi Knut – yes, it is all-Trans, the type found in most fermented foods. The Cis-form is not found in foods. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Do you ship to British Columbia, Canada? I don't see Canada on the shipping list.

  • I am in the UK. If I order from you will this attract customs and postal charges as it costs more than £15? Is there any way this can be sourced in the UK?

Hi June - Orders from the UK usually require that you pay customs and postage charges.  At this time the only source is from our warehouse in the UK. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • My husband has a hard time swallowing these softgels. Can he puncture and squeeze/chew contents into his mouth? Debbi

  • Hello! I am wondering what is the "carob color" listed as the last ingredient in the full spectrum K2. Thanks for any help!

    Hi Sarah,

Carob is a type of legume. It is sometimes used as an alternative for cocoa powder. When the Carob beans are roasted and ground, they develop a potent brown color.

Vitamin K2 is light sensitive. We use Carob extract as a natural brown pigment to prevent light from entering the capsule. We already use a dark amber bottle to reduce light entry into the bottle. The addition of a colored capsules protects the Vitamin K2 even further from light damage.

    Sincerely,
    InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Hi, I have a cyst on my thyroid that is causing me to be hyperthyroid. Is this a safe product to add to my program? Would this trigger any added/heightened side effects? Thanks,M

    Hi Marisa,

The direct answer is: we don't know. Sorry for not not having a clear and useful answer, but your situation is unique and requires medical guidance and supervision.

We have customers who take this Vitamin K2 with mild hypothyroidism and also ones who take it with their thyroid meds. They have not reported any issues. Also, thyroid conditions are not considered a contraindication for K2 supplementation.

Bottom line is that in your case, all supplements need to be vetted and monitored by your doctor.

    Sincerely,
    InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Is there any chance for this product to be vegan in the future?

    Hi Aga,

Our product development team has been made aware of your question. As of now, there are not plans to create a vegan version of this product. Should that change, we will announce it on this site as well as our social media pages.

    Thank you for your interest.

    Sincerely,
    InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • I am allergic to corn. Is this product corn free?

Hi Leda, yes, it is corn free.

  • Hello Vin-we are very grateful for your work on the K2 capsules and have been taking them regularly. occasionally we take the K2 with D3 together, and sometimes without food, because it's bedtime and we've forgotten.... is there an absorption problem wit this? does it matter if K2 is taken with D3--i was told somewhere else that they should be separated for best absorption...? also, is there a problem taking these with yoghurt? (i've heard dairy interferes with the absorption of some vitamin and minerals...) thank you

    Hi JG,

You can take K2 and D3 together or separately - it does not matter. As long as you are taking them at the right dosage, you are good. For D3, most people need between 3000 and 5000 IU per day. Even though D3, K2, and A work together, they are transported and stored in the body somewhat independently, ready and available when needed. D3 and A can be stored for months or years, but K2 appears to get depleted fairly quickly. What this means is that if you have stored reserves of D3 and A, you can go a long time without supplementation. But with K2, you'll need to eat k2-rich-foods or supplements with more regularity.

Something more important to keep in mind is that if you're short on Magnesium, that may act as a bottleneck for D3. Be sure to take some Magnesium or eat a lot of veggies.
    More on that here: https://innovixlabs.com/blogs/insights/taking-vitamin-d-youd-better-be-taking-magnesium-too

As for taking D3 and K2 without food...well, that will likely reduce its absorption because both of these vitamins are what we call 'fat solubles,' and they need a little fat to be properly absorbed. You'll still absorb some, but probably not as well if with a big meal. If you remember that you forgot to take it...just as you are going to bed, don't bother. You're probably better off waiting till breakfast the next morning. Not a big deal if you skip a day or a dose.

I've not seen any compelling evidence that says you can or cannot take these vitamins with dairy. I'd dismiss that concern for now. What can interfere with mineral absorption are foods with phytates - nuts, beans, lentils, peas and corn. Phytates are often called anti-nutrients because they can interfere with iron, calcium, and zinc. If your diet is good, then the little bit of minerals lost to phytates is not a big deal, but if your diet is poor and you do not take supplements, then phytates can worsen deficiency. I'm not asking you to stop eating these seeds and legumes - I certainly eat them. But my point is that dairy is not a concern for interference with mineral absorption as these other foods. Just putting things in perspective.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi Vin. Love your products, and the effort you put forth in your blogs and Q&A. Really. Question: I fell and broke my wrist in 2018. It was determined that my anticonvulsant that is taken for 30 years was to blame. Under neurologists’ and family doctors suggestion and supervision, I came off my “low” dose med. hooray! I refused the biphosphonate option after my doctor said she wasn’t too happy about what the side effects were. Nor was I. So I read for 3 months on all things bone related. Found the COMBS study from University of Calgary, and found Algaecal, and strontium citrate, cod liver oil, 3000 to 4000 is d3, and magnesium. Then I read more about MK4... started your Full Spectrum, and in my haste, intermixed (I know...) with it a periodic 15 mg mk4. My BMD revealed severe osteoporosis, so I needed to throw so much at it, and my it seemed nobody in the medical field was really wanting to go a more natural supplement route..or knew enough about it. My t score after nine moths were amazing. From 5.7% L1-4 , 6.6% total hip, to 9.5 femoral neck. Just recently, I had another follow up that showed more good gains in all but my femoral neck which decreased by 0.2%. My question finally, is it somewhat concerning or normal for my femoral neck to not gain so much after one great increase? I eat pasture raised meat, and veggies as organically as I can, do resistance training, don’t smoke, drink or take any other meds, so I’m a bit confused. Any thoughts spring to mind? I will be talking to my doctor in a month, but I’m starting to see that there is wisdom outside the medical community, so I’m searching for insights/thoughts. Thank you for this forum Vin.

    Hi Cathy,

Thanks for reaching out and the kind words.

So sorry to hear that 30 years of anticonvulsants caused the break in your wrist. That must've been frustrating.

You are doing just about everything right - your months of research clearly shows. Here are a few of my thoughts, both big picture and specific:

    1) You didn't get here overnight or even in a year or two. It took decades. So don't expect dietary and lifestyle corrections (as impressive as yours are) to fix it quickly. A recent study of the effect of Vitamin K2 on pulve wave velocity (a measure of arterial flexibility) took 3 years to show significant results..and that was with 360 mcg of MK-7 taken daily. You may not need that much or that long, but certainly give it another year. Try 2 of our Full Spectrum capsuls daily if you're at one a day.

    2) While cod liver oil can contains some Vitamin A, I suggest you get it from organ meats or Vit A supplements. Vitamins A, D3, and K2 work together to re-calcify bones. Increasing one of those three by a lot (most of us are guilty of this with regards to very high D3 and hardly any A) will cause the others to run low or even create an artificial deficiency or sorts.

    3) The Algaecal formula does not have enough Vitamin C - you may want to get some Vit C-rich foods or supplement with 500 mg daily.

    4) Magnesium - make sure you get at least 300 to 400 mg daily in the glycinate, malate, or if your gut is stronger than your wallet, you may even try Magnesium citrate.

You're doing well - keep at it.

  • I am concerned that I may have been taking too much K7. I have been taking 2 of your capsules each day for the past 45 days. In addition, I have been taking a product called Bone Up Ultra; which has 120mcg of MK7. I have been experiencing nausea. Could you tell me what are the possible side effects of too much MK7?

    Hi Frances,

With 2 of these capsules and the 120 micrograms (mcg) of MK-7 form of K2 from the Bone Up product, you are getting 320 mcg daily of MK-7.

While this is higher than most recommendations, there are studies that used 360 mcg daily where participants did not report this side effect. There is also a recent study that used 1000 mcg daily, again with no major side effects reported.

We have talked to the researchers who conducted the 360 mcg study and they were not concerned about their dosage. On the rare occasion that someone reports a side effect, it is either palpitations or nausea, but we've been unable to pinpoint the root case of these symptoms to Vitamin K2 and not something else that was going on.

Still, we are all unique in how our bodies react to nutrients. It is possible that your body is saying enough. There is an easy way to find out - just quit taking both products for 3 days. This is enough time to clear out most of the MK-7 from your blood. If it is the MK-7 that was causing the issue, you shouls start feeling normal again. You can then slowly wade back into higher doses to see if you geel nausea again. You have to do this a couple of time to rule out the possibility that the nausea was not caused by something else.

Another point about dosage - you get most of your benefits from the first 100 mcg of MK-7. The first 100 mcg is your best bang for the buck. And the second 100 mcg of MK-7 gets you a little more but does not double your benefits. Anything above 200 or 300 mcg of MK-7 is probably not needed unless it is a part of a doctor-mandated plan to aggressively improve bone health.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi, If I want to take two pills of yours K2 complex per day, is it possible to take them together at the same time or better separately at different times of the day? I also take liquid (drops) Vitamin D3 by Thorne in the morning during breakfast and I would like to add 3 intakes per week of vitamin A 10,000 IU by Now Foods. If I take K2 (2 pills) for lunch at noon, I could take vitamin A in the evening for dinner, 3 times a week, avoiding taking it together to the second K2 capsule...

    Hi Fred,

Yes, it's perfectly fine to take two K2 capsules at once. We do it.

However, we have to look to clinical studies to help guide dosing instructions. Studies that have used 180 micrograms or 360 micrograms of K2 per day...people in the study took it once a day.

Having said that, these studies used MK-7 form of K2, which stays in the blood for a day or two. So there's no need to split the dose into two. But if you're concerned that the MK-4 part of the formula is cleared from the blood in a couple of hours, it may be worth it to split the dose.

So, there's no harm in splitting the dose into two and there may be a benefit.

  • i'm not sure i understand the effect of K2 (whether the mk4 or mk7) on stroke. (the kind of stroke caused by blood clots). if K2 increases blood clotting (as evidenced in people taking blood thinners) why wouldn’t it also increase the chances of stroke caused by blood clot (not bleed) in people taking K2? i understand that K1 directly causes clotting. Does K2 also cause clotting? Isn’t this risky in a way?

    Hi JG,

    This is a good question.

However, since stroke is considered a disease per FDA, we are not allowed to say that a supplement treats, cure or even causes disease. Those are the rules as a dietary supplement company. Per Federal regulations, questions of such nature should be addressed to your doctor.

Having said that, the role of Vitamin K2 is proper utilization of calcium in the body. Yes, K1 is the primary clotting factor, which means if we get enough K1 from green, leafy vegetables, we will not bleed to death from paper cuts or other minor cuts. It DOES NOT mean that it will cause clotting and lead to stroke.

Healthy and proper clotting of blood at cuts or incisions is critical for survival. This is what K1 does. Vitamin K1 DOES NOT cause blocked artery (ischemic stroke) or blood vessel bursts (hemorrhagic stroke).

Still, you're not off base in asking. It is a good question. This concern was investigated and answered by this study, which says: 'In our study, neither dietary phylloquinone (K1) nor dietary menaquinones (k2) intake were associated with stroke risk.' You can read the whole study here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3886750/

K2 has a minor effect on coagulation and blood clotting. K2's effect on coagulation is less than K1, but it still helps clot blood when we're cut on injured. More here: https://innovixlabs.com/blogs/insights/vitamin-k2-and-coagulation

Hope that provides a little better insight into the health benefits of Vitamin K2. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Hi, I experience quite significant joint pains shortly after starting to take K2 pills which disappears right after I stop taking them (bought only yours). I figured it out after 2 year of use of K2. What could it suggest: my body does it need K2 or cannot tolerate?

Hi Tamara, we're really sorry to hear about the joint pains.

If you suspect that the joint pain in tied to K2, please stop using the product and contact our customer service at the number shown above. Our team will be able to further assist you.

Joint pain is not a known side effect of Vitamin K2 nor the plant-based oils we use as carrier for Vitamin K2. We do not know why or what might be causing it. Since our bodies are all unique, we understand that it is possible for each of us to have a different response to nutrients or dosages. It is not that your body does not tolerate K2...we all must consume it from foods or supplement, or risk Vitamin K2 deficiency.

By law, we are required to fully document and submit adverse events report to the FDA. So, it is important that we hear from you about the details of the purchase, onset and duration of symptoms, along with a few other details. Please call us at 888-799-7627 or email us at service@innovixlabs.com to complete the report.

Again, we are sorry to hear about the joint pain issue. We can help you find dietary sources of Vitamin K2.

    Sincerely,
    InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Do you test for plasticizers and pesticides? Thank you!

    Hi Cara,

This is a really good question. Bit of a long answer...sorry!

We test for environmental contaminants (arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury) and bacterial/yeast/mold/pathogen contamination. And we use plasticizer-free packaging (BPA-free).

For some of our other products, like fish oil, we test for PCBs, dioxins, and even radiation. However, those types of environmental contaminants are more of an issue with fish oil than Vitamin K2. Therefore, we do not test for fish oil contaminants in K2. So, the contaminants likely to be present in the ingredient determines which ones get tested for.

The source of the raw material used in the product determines which types of pesticides or environmental contaminants are present and tested for. Example: magnesium is mined from the earth. This means that it is much more likely to have heavy metals (arsenic, lead and such) than K2 or fish oil. Therefore, we pay particular attention to heavy metals while manufacturing our magnesium product. Any product made from plants or mined from the earth will have some heavy metals. (Plants absorb what is in the soil.)

To ensure purity, we do three tests:
    1) we only buy raw materials that have acceptable levels of contaminants. We only accept raw materials that have verifiable certificates of analyses.
    2) we verify the raw material purity in our in-house lab and only proceed if all values meet our (and California Prop 65) specifications.
    3) we send out the finished product to a third-party lab to verify our own numbers.

All products go through these three tests before they are approved for release to consumers. As our website homepage says, we make these products for ourselves first. We take our own products and give them to our children, parents, and friends. So if the quality is poor, we'd be the first to pay the price. Hope that bit alone gives you some comfort.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • I'm planning to take Calcium, D3, K2, A, Magnesium for dental health. Can you recommend which time of the day should I take them and which supplement can I take at the same time and which better taken separately at different time of the day. Because some article suggest taken them all at once (Calcium+D3+A+K2) and some said taking fat soluble ( D3+A+K ) at the same time can reduce each other absorption.

    Hi Bea,

Generally, we suggest taking Magnesium an hour or two before bed because it helps you relax.

D3 is the sunshine vitamin and is probably good idea to take in the morning, although we see no harm in taking it in the evening if you've forgotten to take it in the morning.

As long as your body has stores of these nutrients, it does not matter if you take them at once or separately. There is no evidence that these nutrients must be taken simultaneously. Yes, D3, A, and K2 all work together, but that's not the same thing as ingesting simultaneously. What we strongly suggest is that you take these with a large meal, either breakfast or lunch.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi, you mention brain health as a benefit of vitamin K. What dose would recommend for this. My main concern is depression.

Hi Natalia - the MK-4 form of Vitamin K2 is found in the brain. That is as much as we can say with confidence. We don't know if it helps with depression. It may, but we do not have any proof of Vitamin K2 helping with depression. Most of the research on Vitamin K2 has been focused on bone and heart health, not mood.

Having said that, depression may have more to do with gut health and inflammation than the brain. This is because most neurotransmitters are produced in the gut. You may wish to read more about it here: https://innovixlabs.com/blogs/insights/mood-health-plan-diet-tips-depression-anxiety

  • Why do you not list the quantity of MK-4 and MK-7 in your K2 product? Can you do so?

Hi Charles, both MK-4 and MK-7 content are listed on the label. It is required by FDA regulations. The quantity is 500 micrograms (mcg) of MK-4 and 100 mcg of MK-7 per capsule. This is listed in the supplement facts panel on the right side of the bottle label.

  • Hi, Very nice how you add amber coloring for light protection as we sort supplements in a 7 day organizer. Will this keep stable this way? I usually have the organizer sitting on our counter, but can store in a dark cabinet. Thanks!

Hi Megan - 7 days in an organizer will not significantly affect the product. No need to worry about that. However, it may not be good if you keep that organizer by a window sill though...

  • I would like to know more about your K2. Is is synthetic, fermented, bioidentical? What steps to you take to prevent the oils from getting oxidized / damaged during manufacturing?

Hi Marty - both the MK-4 and MK-7 forms of our K2 are derived from plant raw materials - leaves and petals. The final product is certainly bio-identical, but until the FDA defines what is natural and not, we are uncomfortable making a 'natural' claim on the label. The carrier oils in the product are MCT oil and olive oil and they are not susceptible to oxidation like Omega-6 or Omega-3s. MCT simply cannot oxidize due to its structure. With Vitamin K2, oxidation is not the issue but rather exposure to light. We make sure that there is no exposure to sunlight or bright lights. Hence the dark bottle.

  • Is the K2 in your product pharmaceutical grade raw material?

Hi Brian - there is no FDA-approved definition for 'pharmaceutical grade' raw material. The term is often used to refer to high concentration Omega-3 oils. As for this K2, it is made to pharmaceutical standards, which basically means made in a hyper-sanitized enviroment, tested, validated, and documented. The finished product is also third-party tested for purity and potency.

  • I am now preparing to have major surgery to stabilize my Osteopenic ridden back which is considered to be severely unstable and have been advised to take aggressive action to help halt further deteriorration or to reverse the situation, I have increased my vit D3 to 6000 IU daily and have come across your product of Full spectrum K2 and planned to take 2 capsules daily. Can you advise me if that amount is warranted, and also would it be of benefit to add the Vitamin A supplement? I am taking Magnesium supplements and Sizzling Minerals, I am also receiving 6 monthly injections of Prolia. I have 12 months to prepare and improve the condition of my bones. I have already ordered your product. My age is 76 years.

Hi Lorraine - since you're obviously working with a doctor to address this situation, please run all your supplements by your doctor.

    A few thoughts:

    1. Please have your Vitamin D levels checked by your doctor. Taking 6000 IU daily may be OK for a few months, especially if you were diagnosed to be deficient or at suboptimal level. However, that dosage it a bit high to be on permanently, as most people only need about 4000 IU daily. You're not at immediate risk for overdosing, but it's a bit more than you need.

    2. Yes, taking two of the Full Spectrum K2 is perfectly fine, especially if you've been advised to take aggressive action to strengthen your bones. Note that K2 is not fast-acting and may take a few months to a year or so before you see a measurable difference...assuming you are taking other bone-supportive nutrients along with it.

    3. Magnesium is a good idea. Make sure you are getting 400 mg of magnesium daily.

    4. Of course, you'll need Calcium, Vitamin C, Zinc, Manganese, and Boron as well.

    5. And finally, don't forget physical activity.

    Hope this helps.

  • I take Innovix full spectrum K2, one/day. Also 5000iu D3 and Now Vitamin A as you suggest a few times a week. Could you please suggest a dose of Vitamin E to complement these supplements? Thank you for creating what I think is a Goldilocks K2 product.

Hi Jonny, we're glad you like our Full Spectrum K2. Taking 5000 IU of Vitamin D3 is probably a good idea during the winter months when sun exposure is limited. However, depending on how much sun exposure you get in the summer and fall, you may be able to either stop completely or reduce your D3 dosage to once or twice a week during sunnier months. Without a blood test, it is impossible to guess how much you need during each season. Once you've tested for Vitamin D levels, work with your doctor to guide your use. On average most people need 4000 IU to maintain optimal levels, but that depends on your weight, diet, time of year and sun exposure. Taking 5000 IU every single day without testing may be more than you need.   Vitamin A at 10,000 to 25000 IU a few/couple of times a week usually does the trick.  With Vitamin E, you need to keep two things in mind: 1) like Vitamin K2, you need the full spectrum of four tocopherols and four tocotrieneols. The ratio of the tocopherols and tocotrieneols may shift depending on the raw material source (soy, sunflower, palm oil etc.). I would not worry about the source, as much as making sure you get all 8 forms of Vitamin E in your supplement. It goes without saying that food are the best source, but if your diet is short on Vitamin E, then I suggest you take Jarrow Famil-E. It contains all 8 natural forms of Vitamin E. It's not a perfect formula, but it is a good one. Like Vitamin A, you don't need to take this daily. Two to three times a week will do the trick. If you happen to read scary reports about Vitamin E supplementation, keep in mind that virtually all research on Vitamin E was conducted using a synthetic form of one of the eight forms of Vitamin E.    Hope this helps.

  • Please explain the purpose of the medium chain triglyceride oil and glycerin. Also, what is the gelatin source? Thanks.

Hi Deb - the purpose of the Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) is to act as a carrier. The original K2 raw material is highly concentrated. The MCT is used to dilute it to usable concentrations.

Glycerin is found in the outer soft geltain capsule, where is makes the gelatin soft and pliable.

    The gelatin source is bovine.

  • Hi, can you describe from which animal the gelatin for this particular Vitamin k come from?

    Hi Isam,

The gelatin is bovine (beef) sourced.

    InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • I have a sensitivity to gelatin. Is it okay to break open the softgel and consume the K2 it without the gelatin capsule?

    Hi Ginger,

We typically do not recommend piercing or cutting open the softgels because cutting it open can cause the contents to squirt and you may not be able to take out all the Vitamin K2 from inside the capsule. However, if you are OK with the two issues mentioned above, it should be fine to consume it your way.

  • where are the vitamins made ? china ,India use? Also almost all vit k2 are soy based.I can not find the info on what you make the k2 from

InnovixLabs Full Spectrum Vitamin K2 is made in the USA from ingredients sourced around the world.

Our MK7 ingredient is sourced from Geraniol ( from Geranium plants or Acacia Tree Oil ) from Norway.

Our MK4 ingredient is sourced from Geraniol or from Solanaceae (Night Shade Plants) - currently from the Orange Jasmine plant.
MK4 is sourced from China.  This is the only non-soy, non-fermented source of MK4 in the world.

We do not source any other ingredients from China for any of our products.

We do not source any ingredients from India in this product.

There is no soy or natto in this product.

  • is it halal certified? and is the source of gelatin bovine?

    Hi Jude,

The gelatin is not pork-based. It is still bovine-derived.

The gelatin used to make the softgels are Halal & Kosher certified. However, the product as a whole is not certified.

    Thank you.

  • I have read that all MK-4 is sourced from Solanesol derived from a nightshade plant. When I take just one drop of the Thorne MK-4 formulation I have a nightshade reaction...the muscles on the backs of my legs go into cramping spasms. You say your product is free of major allergens. Is your product free of Nightshade? I would very much like to try your product, but I'm worried about the effect nightshade has on me.

Hi Thea - the term 'major allergens' has an FDA definition. This group includes wheat, peanuts, soy, fish, shellfish, dairy, eggs, and treenuts. Nightshades are not included in the term 'major allergen.' Given your known allergy to nightshades and your known reaction to another MK-4 products, we do not recommend you take this or other MK-4 products without the close supervision of a doctor. A chickpea-based MK-7 supplement may be a better option for you, while depending on foods to provide MK-4. - InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • Hi, is your gelatin halal or from a non animal source?

    Hi Amal,

Yes, all our gelatin is bovine/beef source and Halal.

    Sincerely,
    InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • This K2 supplement sounds perfect, except that I'm hypersensitive to nightshades, so I suspect it won't work for me. Is there any form of supplemental MK-4 that *isn't* derived from nightshades, or will I have to find a dietary source for this nutrient instead? Thanks for any advice!

    Hi Allison,

If you're hypersensitive to nightshades, then it's best to get your MK-4 from foods.

Our MK-4 is usually made with orange jasmine petals and various leaves, some of which may be sourced from nightshades. We put the nightshade statement on the label so that those highly sensitive to nightshades can steer clear. There may be other brands that sell MK-4 made mostly/only from orange jasmine.

Having said that, even if the MK-4 is made exclusively from nightshades, the likelihood of allergic response is low due to the degree of purification and separation from the original plant matter. It is not like biting into a tomato or pepper. If you're concerned, we strongly suggest you work with a doctor to monitor your risk should you decide to try the product.

    Sincerely,
    InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • What type of gelatin does it contain? Is it plant based gelatin or obtained from animals?

    Hi Ayesha,

The gelatin is bovine. It is not plant-based.

We do not use plant-based soft capsules for this product because the technology is not fully developed - they tend to leak more than regular gelatin. They are also more expensive and have sharp capsule seams that bother some people's throats.

    Sincerely,
    InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • I found this to be stimulating and agitating for a few hours after taking, do you know why? I even tried taking half the capsule contents and same experience. I have used a low-dose 45mcg K2 from another company which only contains MK-7 and never experienced overstimulation or jitteriness from that. I've got severe chronic fatigue and always appreciate more energy but not if it feels agitating. Is this something you've heard of and if so would you expect it to ease up with longer usage? For now I'm not taking it until I understand what's happening. Thank you!

    Hi Jen,

    Sorry for the late response.

Stimulation and agitation are not known or noted side effects of Vitamin K2. Having said that, we never discount any reports of side effects, no matter how uncommon. This is because we are react uniquely to dietary input and we're all unique in our nutrient status.

There is a school of thought (anecdotal and unproven) that says Magnesium deficiency can interfere in how we process Vitamin K2. The same people also suggest that those who struggle with MK-7 rarely if ever have issues with MK-4. Yet another idea being tossed around is our ApoE status...this is a genetic polymorphism that may determine how quickly or how efficiently we metabolize Vitamin K2.

Also, if you do OK with 45 mcg of Vitamin K2 (as MK-7), then you have a clear path to follow that dosing. Sure, 45 mcg is somewhat low, but it's better than not taking it at all.

We suggest you go with the lower dosage that's worked well for you in the past. If you need to process a refund for the product you purchased from us, please reach out to us at seervice at innovixlabs dot com. We'll take care of it for you.

    Sincerely,
    InnovixLabs Customer Service

  • I read the bottle over and over again. Why is the dosage not listed? I don't care about percentages. I want to know the dose please.

    Hello,

The dosage or 'Suggested Use' is listed on the other side of the bottle and says:

'For general health, take one capsule per day. For heart and arterial health, take two capsules per day. Best of taken with a meal.'

Additionally, Vitamin K2 is more effective if you have adequate levels of Vitamin D3 and Magnesium.

    Hope this helps.

    Sincerely,

K2 Full Spectrum

I have been buying K2 for the past couple of years now and am very happy with this product and the fantastic service in bringing it to my doorstep, which is no easy task. I have moved twice in the last year and have had to pause and restart my service too. Their response is always prompt and courteous.

If I had one suggestion with this excellent product, it would be to offer it in higher/various dosages. I take two in order to get the amount I want and I have friends who take 3 times the amount I take.

I am very impressed with the Full Spectrum K2 potent supplement. Honestly, I noticed a “feel-good” endorphin the first day. I decided because I was so run down from a year of high stress life adjustments, to take 2 every day for 2 weeks. I have been into the practicing of Nutrition field for 50 years. I have seen an instant improvement with my face suppleness and the overall body of moisture . My intuition tells me this company is the real deal, very high on ethics and integrity. I will be ordering more amazing products from them.

To be honest and fair, I receive my K2 on schedule and always receive update as to upcoming delivery. After my Nurse Practioner recommended I add K2 to my calcium regiment I chose Full Spectrum after research as to the best and most effective vitamin out there. Has it helped my calcium - I'm not certain. My Dex
